SUMMARY
Xanthostigma xanthostigma has an elongated pronotum, four membranous wings and long needle-like ovipositor in females. It has a dark black body, with some lighter colouring on its pronotum and abdomen. The pterostigma is a pale yellow-brown colour, which is present on all four wings. It has a body length of 7–9mm and a wingspan of 15–20mm.
It is widespread and locally common in England, mostly recorded in the midlands and East Anglia. It is very localised in Wales and is not currently recorded in Scotland or Ireland.
